Apprenticeship contract

Is your child about to sign an apprenticeship contract?
If so, see when you receive child benefit below.

If your son or daughter is working or studying under an apprenticeship agreement or contract, you are entitled to child benefit for the period of the contract for which they are 25 or younger, under the following conditions:

  • The apprenticeship contract is recognised by a training centre for SMEs or a service for the integration of persons with a disability or condition.
  • The apprenticeship contract is managed by a training pathway supervisor.
  • Your child earns a maximum of € 551,89 gross from their apprenticeship contract, other work and social benefits combined. More information about studying and working is available here

If the apprenticeship contract is refused, withdrawn or broken, you may still be entitled to child benefit during the period of the apprenticeship contract depending on your situation:

  • Prior to a refusal – If the apprenticeship contract is refused while still ongoing, you may keep any child benefit received on condition that the period from the start of the contract to the refusal is no longer than six months.
  • After a refusal, breach or withdrawal – You are still entitled to child benefit from the date of the refusal, breach or withdrawal for a period of a maximum of three months under the following conditions:
  • Your child earns no money during this period, including no income from the apprenticeship contract
  • Your child continues to follow the courses.
  • Je kind Your child may still enter into an apprenticeship contract. They are therefore not excluded from recognition in the future.
